With my new wife’s green card showing up weeks earlier than expected, there was only a few weeks to plan and execute a last minute trip to china before she had to return to school.

Technically I was out of vacation days… And it was a hard choice for me. Do I put my career first, or take the opportunity to get on the first flight I could find and meet my new family on the other side of the world.

If you have never flown to Asia, I would recommend grabbing a few beers to make the flight pass by quicker. It also seems to help with the jet lag.

My final destination was Qingdao. A fascinating city exhibiting a mix of old European colonialism, ancient Chinese, and a budding city core representing the best of modern China.
